This part of the Healing Tree is here for you to make sense of your story, and to untangle your emotions.

You might want to look at The Healing Tree: Keeping yourself Safe before you do this and make sure you can phone a safe person who will listen to you and take care of you.

oliva-part 1

Your story is yours to write and understand. We suggest that you write it down in a journal which you can put in a safe place. No one has to read it.

We suggest that you put a time limit of one hour per day on this activity, as this exercise can be very tiring.

To help you to tell your story, here are some questions you can answer to yourself and/or your safe person. You do not have to answer them all, if at all. They are just to help you to make sense of what you are feeling.

We suggest that when you look at a question, you write down the feeling or emotion that goes with it.

You may even like to draw a picture instead of writing.

How we end Telling your Story 2.

It would be good to lock your story away into a box or something similar because you need to distance yourself from your emotions for a while.

Ways to calm yourself if you are feeling strong emotions:

Walk away from where you have been working.

Make a drink for yourself.

Watch a TV programme, a film or a good book.

Go shopping.

Go to the gym.

Are you crying? Feel free to cry.

Squeezing a big squashy teddy bear can help.

Do you need to call your safe people?
